Consultancy when you need us

As providers of “Daylight” software we are well placed to offer unique collaboration with Architects, Developers and Consultants.

We can be involved throughout the daylight design process and offer the client to tap into our consultancy service when required, saving both time and cost.

We can provide advice from the earliest stage of site layout, using Facade Analysis to help optimise both building orientation and window placement. At this stage a model of the surrounding buildings will be required in order to understand their impact on the design as well as the effect the proposal may have on its neighbours.

Initially a Context 3d Model can be obtained which is created from aerial photogrammetry. If a more accurate site survey is required (i.e. For ROL purposes) then a 3d Laser Scan can be carried out in which an accurate 3d model can be produced from the scan data.

At this early stage it can also be useful to understand the massing potential of the site, this can be realised by the production of a 3d Envelope for planning and/or Rights of Lights purposes either as a combined or separate envelope.

As the scheme progresses past the early stages and on to planning a more detailed Neighbouring Daylight and Sunlight Assessment as well as an Internal Daylight Assessment of the design may be required. A supplementary Shadow Analysis or understanding the impact of Sunlight to Amenity areas are commonly requested, or even understanding the Potential Solar Glare from reflected sunlight of the proposal to passing trains or motorists, are all things we can assist with.

Facade Analysis

A façade analysis is a great way to initially optimise both building orientation and window placement for your proposed design. It is also a useful way to measure the initial impact on any neighbouring buildings.

Context 3D Model (Accucities)

Working with our partner AccuCities, we offer stereo photogrammetry capture services of almost any site in the UK which is fast, accurate and affordable.
Many cities are already in the library and custom 3D models can be produced in as little as 5 days.

3D Laser Scan

Laser Scanning is the process of collecting 3D points which through their density represent a “point cloud”. This can then be manipulated and enhanced to produce 3D models or exported to 2D drawings.

3d Model from Pointcloud Survey

Producing an accurate and reliable 3D model is an essential step in being able analyse Rights of Light, Daylight and Sunlight.

3D Envelope

An envelope allows you to understand the massing potential of the site. An envelope can be built to comply with the planning guidelines, as well as Rights of Light. These can be combined envelopes or separate envelopes.

Rights Of Light

Rights of Light is not a planning issue and is separate from daylight and sunlight. Rights to Light must be considered even if planning permission has been granted. A right to light is an easement obtained after an uninterrupted period of 20 years through defined apertures.

Neighbouring Daylight & Sunlight Assessment

A technical analysis which is a vital part of the planning process. The main purpose of the assessment is to determine the potential impact that a proposed development may have on the surrounding neighbouring properties.

Internal Daylight Assessment

The main purpose of the assessment is to analyse the proposed design to ensure it is performing as well as it can and is meeting the required targets specified in the relevant guidelines/standard.

Shadow Analysis

Shadow Analysis provides an indication of the shadow casted by the proposed development on the neighbouring properties on a particular time and date.

Sunlight To Amenity

Sometimes required as part of the planning process, sunlight to amenity measures the amount of sunlight an amenity (e.g. Gardens and Playgrounds) receives on a typical date, usually March 21st.

Potential Solar Glare

Reflected sunlight from the proposal to passing trains or motorists can cause disability glare. Potential Solar Glare highlights the likely date and time solar glare may occur.
